Bournemouth BIC & Pavilion charge for emailing tickets

I spoke about my dislike of booking fees on tickets HERE but recently I became even more frustrated as my local events venue, the Bournemouth BIC & Pavilion run by BH Live, not only charged the standard booking fee but charged £1 for email delivery of tickets.

I accept postage costs of a ticket, but a cost to email, that is a little over the top.

You will be sent an email confirmation of order by all online web shops as a matter of course.  I could too have perhaps understood the cost if the tickets came through at a later date by email, like printed tickets would.

BUT, these tickets were attached as a .pdf file to the order confirmation email. Where is the cost in this?

There is the cost of building the system to generate and send these but even a £10,000 system will soon pay for itself with the number of tickets that get sold.  This to me is nothing but profiteering.

The sad fact is I have no option if I wish to watch events locally, which of course I do.

It is just extremely disappointing that an email now costs money, an email that is automatically generated by a computer system with no human intervention Sad smile.

People work at different speeds

I am the type of person who can not sit around and do nothing. Relaxing to me is just more time to think about the things I need to do or should do.

Some will read this and think I am loopy and I wouldn’t blame you.  Sometimes I would just like to sit down without a care in the world and forget about the things that need doing, but the beauty of life is that we are all different and this is what makes me who I am.

So when I need to get things done, because I know they need doing I like to complete them as quickly as I can but to the best of my ability.  This does not mean rushing, but it does mean ensuring I spend the minimum time necessary on the job to get it done properly.

It is all to easy to waste time focusing on small details and essentially not being productive.

My compulsive need to get things done then transitions, with regret I add, to others and how they get things done.  Whilst I know we can not and choose not to work at the same speed why is it some seem to think that you have all day to wait whilst they do something?!

Or why do some choose to take longer than they say they will for no particular reason?

I am the first to admit I put some emails and tasks to the bottom of my to do list as the content is less time sensitive.  I may say to someone I will do that soon but never specify when (although soon usually means within a week with me) but I always endeavour to fulfil work by a deadline that I have agreed to.  Thus it really frustrates me when someone does not do or complete the work on time or even close to time.

I wish I could be more lenient, but do not say your going to do something and don’t do it. Or if you don’t do it, at least have a reasonable excuse.

Ticket booking fees

ID-10038496Why do booking fees for tickets for any sort of event actually exist?

They seem to me to be nothing more than a profit making exercise.  Advertise the tickets at one price but charge a bit more to cover their costs.

Like any business selling something there are associated costs and processing a card transaction online or in store, the process does incur a cost. However the difference with buying most things online or in store in comparison to tickets is that you do not get charged a fee for doing so.

Imagine walking into a high street store picking a t-shirt for £20 but being told as you go to pay for it that you need to pay an extra £1 because you wish to pay by card.

This is the exact principle that ticket sellers operate by.  The event ticket may be £60 but you usually have to pay a £x service charge. For what?

The cost is obviously to cover the associated fees with actually selling you the ticket, like covering the costs they get charged by the card processing agency, but why do they not incorporate the card costs into the sale price, like any high street shop or online retailer?

If the cost was included in the ticket price, the real cost of the ticket is actually known prior to going through the full checkout process.

I have come to accept these fees like anyone else I am sure, but the question still remains as to why do they exist?! We wouldn’t accept this on the high street from clothes shops or food retailer so why do we with ticket sellers?

If it is simply a case of they need to charge the additional fee to make a profit then do it by increasing the ticket cost!

A quick search reveals this Which article intimates that the charge is so they can make money over and above the cost of the ticket set by the artist/performer and to create a contract between you and them as the seller, but still.

It is a negative moan I know and one that wont change but I still think that it is misleading as the initial ticket price is what you are drawn to even if you are clearly told the additional fees during the checkout process.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumour Video

Samsung Galaxy S4 promo video – was it worth it?

The following video has been circulating the web and gaining a lot of interest.  At the time of posting it has had in excess of 2 million views, which is fantastic. It is a brilliant video.

However I just can’t quite help but think it builds the hopes of many only to have them dashed when the rumoured items do not come to fruition.

Now I have no proof that features will or will not come but rumours set a target or expectation that may or may not be met and reactions are made as a result.

Am I just being miserable and negative?

EE & 4G – Don`t advertise what you can`t offer

I am all for the faster mobile internet speeds and have to give EE some credit for now offering them.

Data plan costs aside (ridiculous as they are) I really HATE the fact that they are advertising it in towns where it is not on offer.

So I was in London the other day, fine, London has 4G makes sense that a big splash is being made about it.

HOWEVER in Bournemouth 4G is not yet an option so why the advertising?!

Ok people need to be made aware that 4G is coming but a national campaign on newspapers and TV would be better than local ads. It gives a false impression that it is available everywhere.  That has to be at least 12 months away, so until then EE please don`t advertise a service you can not offer!!
